LAN’s design of the new two-story, 67,000 SF school will be constructed on the site of the former school which was destroyed in a fire of March 2014. The new educational facility is designed to provide modern classrooms filled with daylight and will utilize LED light fixtures with daylight harvesting and motion sensors to provide energy efficiency. This facility will provide specialized instructional spaces that were missing from the original structure. In addition, the school will have a community wing for after-school programs and the surrounding neighborhood. In terms of site placement, the footprint of the school is similar to that of the former facility, in order to take advantage of existing utility connections, site improvements, and lessen the impact on its neighbors. This project is currently under construction and will be completed in September for the 2016 school year.

LAN is the architect and engineer of record for the design of additions and renovations to the existing Alpine Public School.  The new educational spaces includes a performing arts center/auditorium, a large music room, three small group instructional spaces, board of education offices, and main offices. Simultaneously, LAN’s design improved circulation patterns as the school is built on a sloped site which is reflected in level changes on the interior. The new circulation design provides ADA accessibility through a new elevator and a ramp to access a majority these various levels. The addition is on schedule to be completed May 2016.   A media center renovation was completed this summer for the start of the 2016 school year.

LAN worked with the Fair Lawn Board of Education to design a new classroom wing and Media Center for the Westmoreland Elementary school.  This addition wraps around the existing southern classroom wing on two sides completing a corridor loop on the interior.   The location and shape of the addition was driven by the contours of the site and existing site elements.   The Media Center which currently resides in a small classroom will be relocated into a new vaulted space with built-in shelving interspersed between window seats around the perimeter of the space.  The Media Center will be used for student research and computer lab, as well as, various community uses such as Board of education meetings and as a voting location.  This addition is slated to be ready for the start of the 2016/2017 school year.

Followed by their design of James Monroe Elementary School, LAN Associates was retained to design additions to Menlo Park Elementary School. The two proposed additions include eight new classrooms, an instrumental music room, gymnasium and stage. Upon entering the new gymnasium and performance lobby, visitors are greeted by a 3D accent wall accompanied by color changing LED’s that accentuate the activities inside. The design of the gymnasium addition also focuses on providing large amounts of natural light for indoor sporting events. The proposed classrooms will implement the latest teaching technologies while also focusing on acoustics and daylighting. The new masonry structures are complemented by metal panels picking up color accents from the existing school.
