Pratt & Whitney Advanced Coating Technologies

Project Overview

LAN worked closely with Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Company, and Advanced Coating Technologies, LLC, a division of Pratt & Whitney, to develop a 95,000 sf facility to be utilized to apply high performance, specialty ceramic coatings to aircraft engine components. The facility has been designed to meet demands to support the equipment requirements for the state-of-the-art processes which will use the latest technology available to apply ceramic coatings to aviation engine turbine blades and other parts.

LAN’s services included design, facility layout and planning for full fit-out, design development, construction drawings, renderings, local planning board and building department approvals including DEC environmental permits.

Architectural services included the renovation of the existing building and a 5,800 sf. addition to house the new processes, and upgrade the building façade, entry lobby and office areas to the client’s corporate standards.

Engineering services have included civil engineering of various site improvements, structural modifications for sophisticated machinery, mezzanines and cranes, bulk industrial gas storage facilities, electrical design to upgrade the service and distribution system to deliver up to 17.5 megawatts of power and mechanical design for not only general HVAC requirements but for process cooling water demands.

Green design practices were integrated towards achieving LEED Gold certification for the new facility, including the incorporation of a rainwater harvesting system. As part of the building addition, the foundation was designed and constructed as a 150,000 gallon cistern to collect rainwater which is filtered and used for chilled process water before using municipal resources. Other features include energy efficient appliances and equipment, low flow plumbing fixtures, new LED lighting and controls, electric vehicle charging stations and new cool roofing system with increased thermal value.

Client Testimonial

“Since 2012, LAN Associates has provided Pratt & Whitney with professional architecture & engineering services and we could not be happier with their efforts, as they are attentive, responsive, and knowledgeable. They have worked on technically complex projects that required coordination with various stakeholders and vendors. Specifically, LAN worked with specialty equipment suppliers to prepare precise and accurate design drawings for the installation of special equipment. LAN implemented sustainable design practices and they were instrumental to providing LEED certification services in support of the project.”
