Ridgewood Education Center Restoration

Project Overview

The former Beech Street School located at 49 Cottage Place was constructed in 1894. Built in the Romanesque Revival style, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The century old school building is now used as the Ridgewood Education Center and occupied by the administrative staff of the Ridgewood Board of Education.

LAN was hired by the Ridgewood Board of Education to assist with filing applications and gaining approval from the New Jersey State Historic Preservation Office and the Ridgewood Historic Preservation Commission for a slate roof replacement, cornice and masonry restoration project.

LAN consulted with Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects to ensure all work met the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation, and consulted with Larry Plevy, from Schtiller & Plevy, Inc. to ensure all sheet metal work was performed in accordance with SMACNA’s guidelines for historic preservation.
